ATTORNEY FRED V. PEET


Fred V. Peet founded The Law Offices of Fred V. Peet in 1995.  Over time, the firm grew to 7 real estate attorneys and changed its name to the Peet Law Group in 2021.  Fred is still active with the firm in an Of Counsel capacity.


Fred was born the oldest of four children and raised on the Peet family dairy farm in Cornwall and Middlebury, Vermont. He attended Middlebury Union High School.  He graduated the University of Vermont, Cum Laude, in 1990 and received his Juris Doctorate from Vermont Law School in 1993.


During law school, he clerked for the law firm of Conley and Foote in Middlebury, Vermont, and the Vermont Legislative Council. Fred was admitted to the Vermont Bar in 1993. Following graduation from law school, he served as the Campaign Manager for Lieutenant Governor Barbara Snelling in her successful 1994 reelection campaign. Fred assisted businesses seeking financing with the financial consulting firm of Savill, Bevin, and Butler in Shelburne, Vermont.


In 1995, he opened the Law Offices of Fred V. Peet, concentrating on representing buyers and sellers of real estate and mortgage lenders. He has served as an agent and board member for Vermont Attorneys Title Corporation (n/k/a  CATIC) since 1995 and has been a member of the Vermont Bar Association since 1993.


Fred was a member of the Cornwall Volunteer Fire Department and served as Treasurer. He was elected Moderator and appointed Justice of the Peace for the Town of Cornwall.  He was appointed by two Governors to serve on the board of the Vermont State Housing Authority. He was a board member and President of the Ronald McDonald House. He is currently an affiliate member of the Vermont Mortgage Bankers Association and several Vermont Realtor Associations. He was selected as the Affiliate of the Year for the Northwest Vermont Realtor Association.  He currently served as a Foundation Board member for the Cornwall Congregational Church. He continues to serve as a long time Trustee of the Vermont FFA Foundation.

He has served as an agent and board member for Vermont Attorneys Title Corporation (n/k/a  CATIC) since 1995 and has been a member of the Vermont Bar Association since 1993.  Under Fred's leadership, the firm was voted the best real estate law firm multiple times by the readers of Vermont Business Magazine; named Affiliate of the Year by the Northwest Vermont Realtor Association; and voted best Vermont Law Firm with the Seven Daysies Awards.
